Latin American Bond Markets Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Latin American Bond Markets - Essay Example an that, it examines Latin Americas international capital markets access starting 1980 to 2005 while dwelling mostly on the role of factors both domestic and external. Since the nineties, several of the Latin American countries have undertaken major policy reforms directed at ensuring the development of bond markets that had previously been non-existent. This has resulted, decades later, in an unevenly developed bond market, with thriving government and private bond markets that are still yet to be consolidated. These markets mainly concentrate on small numbers of large suppliers and show spurs in monetary growth that is unsustainable over time. As such, in several of these countries, bank credit is still the main source of financial credit to date. However, market based financing has experienced a lagging performance. Several efforts to explain this lag in performance have been made, none of which has explicit focus on the bond markets. This has left many questions regarding these markets unanswered. 1Empirical approaches to the capital markets have been descriptive with no intent to pursue models looking into market participant behavior. This raises the question as to whether, basing on policy, private bond markets development is crucial for the growth and development of economies of the involved countries, and if so, to what extent? In recent years, domestic bond markets in Latin America have constituted a growing finance source for the economies of respective countries and for global investors, a portfolio allocation. This brings up the question as to whether the region’s countries can borrow, at longer maturities, in local currency. Over the past decade, domestic issuance of securities has had a rapid expansion. This growth has led to fixed income markets domination as a funding source for both private sector and public sector. It is clearly evident that bond markets in Latin America have a long way to go in as far as policy reformation is concerned.

Cahuilla Tribe Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Cahuilla Tribe - Essay Example However there was a continuous fall in the number of the neophytes and there was a decline in the power of the mission due to this, more over due to the reason that the Mexican government was taken over by the Spanish government. The situation of the Indians deteriorated even more due to the transfer of the country to United States of America and with the discovery of gold in the country in 1848 caused immigrants to rush to the country which had a negative effect on the Indians, even the states that had not been reached by the Spaniards were effected. Since this period the history of Indian of United States had changed completely and they had faced termination and depravity. Though reservations were made for almost all tribes, most of the survivors still live all around the country on land that they have bought or as squatters. As a result of ethnological investigation rather than the facts recognized by them, the tribal concept in most of the areas of the country is the one that is imposed on them. Rather than a ceremonial or governmental base it has a dialectic base; however this is the best option unless each village group is treated as a tribe which is not a practical alternative. From an ordinary point of view it is to be understood as to what constitutes a tribe, the method that is used as of now is highly artificial. Under such situation it is not quite suitable to follow a strictly alphabetic system, in order to enter tribes that were defined by their names under more widespread names as part of bigger groups and their names, they got certified names such as Norther, Yuki, and Paiute rather than the names Coast Yuki and Norther Paiute. Several Indian tribes have settled in the state of California, one such tribe is the Cahuilla tribe. This tribe has occupied California for the last 2000 years. They inhabit an area of around 2400 square miles. The long-established territory of Cahuilla was close to the geographic center of the South of California. The area occupied by the Cahuilla tribe was bounded to the south by the Chocolate Mountains and the Borrego Springs and bounded to the north by San Bernardino Mountains, to the west by the San Jacinto Plain, and finally to the east by the Palomar Mountains. Historians believe that a huge water body which is now called Lake Cahuilla existed when the Cahuillas first moved to the Coachella Valley. However, this lake which was formed by the Colorado River dried sometime before the 1700, because of the shifts in the course of the river. Later, in the year 1905 a much smaller lake called Salton Sea was created in the same place due to a break in a levee. Anthropologists have historically divided the Cahuilla into Pass, Mountain, and Desert groups. Bands of Cahuilla people have situated in Riverside, San Diego, and Imperial counties have acknowledged homes to nine Southern California Reservations. Many Cahuillas have married non-Cahuillas. Many of the Cahuillas today have a mixed history, particularly African American and Spanish. Yet there are people who have grown up in the tribe's way and those who recognize with the Cahuillian culture can qualify for an official membership to the tribe according to the internal rules of the tribe. Like most other tribes, the Cahuillas lived on agriculture by using native plants. One such tree which was harvested by the Cahuilla is the California Fan

Introduction to Communication-Artifacts Assignment

Introduction to Communication-Artifacts - Assignment Example But when I saw his bracelet, I understood that he is probably a good and religious person. As this wristband is mentioned to remind the people how they should act in any situation, I was sure that whatever happens, my friend will never do something bad on purpose and will be eager to help me. Thus, this artifact helped me to perceive my friend as a good person, before we really made friends, and I found out that he is really a good man. 2. Both, in my home and my working place I have several pictures of my girlfriend. The framework with a photo of my girlfriend stands at a visible place, and everyone who enters the cabinet, can see this picture. This display definitely says to other people that I am in love with my girlfriend, most probably I am engaged (or plan to do so or am already married), and that my relationship with her is the one that I cherish and take care of (otherwise I would put the picture in a place, which is not visible to other people, especially women). I like to look at the picture when I have time, and dream about our future, so this artifact definitely conveys the image that I would choose to present to other people. The pictures at home identify me as the same loving and caring person to my guests. Besides those, who see me at home and at work, understand that I am truly in love, if I display the picture of my girlfriend

Sexual orientation discrimination Research Paper

Sexual orientation discrimination - Research Paper Example A lot has been done to curb this. Besides, the government has enacted laws to protect the workers in this context. It is paramount to understand that people of all sexual orientations should experience a welcome and be safe in the places where they work and enjoy a dignity treatment. Despite this, the law does not encourage discrimination based. There is an Act that protects individuals from this type of discrimination. It is enshrined in the title VII of the civil rights act of 1963. This law prohibits workplace discrimination that is based on among other factors, sex of the individual. This includes the sex orientation of an individual. These laws aim to bring relief against discrimination in accommodation to public and private institutions (Malos, 2007). They persuade the employers to employ to promote equal employment opportunities in the workplace. The role of sexuality in Victorian society applied to A. S. Byatts Essay

The role of sexuality in Victorian society applied to A. S. Byatts Possession - Essay Example Byatt’s novel Possession. Although the novel tells a fictional tale of two literary scholars tracking down evidence of a love affair between two Victorian era poets, episodes dedicated to the poets themselves reveal a great deal of information regarding the way of life of women during this period in history. Unlike much of the non-fiction articles that have been written about life in Victorian England and elsewhere, Byatt’s novel provides a glimpse of several different women during this period that held quite opposing views regarding their individual sexualities. By tracing through the novel Possession and comparing it with non-fictional accounts of this period and critical evaluation, one can begin to gain a sense of how women had been severely restricted in their options in Victorian society as well as how they rebelled or worked within it to achieve their own sense of sexuality. There are three principle female characters involved in the Victorian portion of the novel, each with her own strengths and weaknesses demonstrating how she has both conformed to and resisted the definitions placed upon her by the strict nature of Victorian England. Christabel LaMotte is a scholar and minor poetess who is the object of Randolph Henry Ash’s fascinated attention. Blanche Glover is the companion of Christabel, sharing her home and dream of independence but not able to retrieve the same sense of fulfillment as she does not receive recognition for her actions. A fourth woman, Sabine Kercoz, Christabel’s younger cousin, adds her own perspective regarding female sexuality during the Victorian age from the unique oblique of the French countryside.
